Trick or Treat!

It's a given:  Kids love Halloween!  The costumes, the trick or treating, and the candy make for a fun night!  But statistically, children are twice as likely to be hit by a car on Halloween night than any other day of the year.  So while we want the kids to have fun, they also should stay safe.  Here are a few common sense tips:

*Make sure costumes don't impair vision, or are so long they become a tripping hazard.

*Only cross the street at corners using crosswalks.  Look both ways before crossing, and watch for cars backing up or turning.  Never dash out onto a street between parked cars!

*Have at least one flashlight or glow stick per group of children, and have it on at all times.

*For older children trick or treating without supervision, have a designated route for them to take--and a specific time for them to come back home.

*Only visit homes of people you know and trust; but if you decide to visit homes of strangers:

*Never eat any candy, snacks, or fruit that is not in its manufactured packaging!

Let's have a fun night. . .but let's also have a SAFE night!  Happy Trick or Treating!
